Special gift on the occasion of International Museum Day

This year International Museum Day was special to the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum. On this occasion Lithuanian Expatriate Art Foundation granted seven paintings by Jonas Rimša (1903–1978) and a valuable album of cut-outs about creative work and activities of Jonas Rimša across the Atlantic to the museum. The new source of research will enable art researchers to get acquainted with the public and exhibition activity of the artist thoroughly. By the way, the mentioned donation contract was signed on a special day – 13th May – on this day 35 years ago artist Jonas Rimsa died.
Jonas Rimša is one of the most prominent Lithuanian emigrant artists who proclaimed the name of Lithuania abroad. He has merits to Bolivian culture and was awarded with the highest Order of Condor Cavalier of the Andes granted to civilians. He was awarded the title of Citizen of Honour of Bolivia (1950) and the name of Professor of Honour (1974).
