Artwork "Lemniscate" by Žilvinas Kempinas in the Gallery "Vartai"
From November 29 an exhibition "Mindwalk" will open its doors in art gallery Vartai (Vilnius str. 39, Vilnius). In this exhibition there will be displayed works from the private collections of contemporary art (Rolandas Valiūnas, Audronė and Marius Vaupšai, Irina and Maris Vitols, Boris Symulevič and Vilma Dagilienė). Two artworks from the collection of Lewben Art Foundation, the founder of Lithuanian Expatriate Art Foundation, will be presented as well – Žilvinas Kempinas "Lemniscate" (2008) and Erwin Wurm "Fat Car" (2002).
Žilvinas Kempinas (born in 1969) is one of the most famous representatives of Lithuanian contemporary art, currently living and working in New York City. Žilvinas Kempinas' first New York shows took place at PS1 Contemporary Art Center in 2003 and Spencer Brownstone Gallery in 2004. The artist has earned international acclaim since his entire second show at Spencer Brownstone – Columns and Bike Messenger – was purchased by The Margulies Collection in 2006 and exhibited during Art Basel Miami Beach that same year. In 2007, Žilvinas Kempinas was featured by Art Review Magazine as one of its 'Future Greats'. In the same year, he was awarded the Calder Prize and a residency at Atelier Calder in Saché, France. In 2008, the artist showed at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and, in 2009, in a solo show at the Kunsthalle, Vienna. In 2009, Žilvinas Kempinas represented Lithuania at the Venice Biennale 53rd International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy. The 2012 Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize was awarded to Žilvinas Kempinas for suggestive minimalist language of modern art and its international significance.
Erwin Wurm (born in 1954) is the world-famous Austrian sculptor, living and working in Vienna. His works are a part of prestigious collections worldwide, including Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, The Walker Art Center, Museum Ludwig, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Musee d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, and the Centre Pompidou.
